CRISTINA & MAGDA STAICUT
Abstract tempera paintings with 24-karat Pure Gold leaf

A PERSONAL SELECTION OF SPECIAL ARTWORKS
“Cristina & Magda Staicut present us with works which move past modernism towards abstraction and design which connect us with ancient and classical aesthetics. Through delicate elegance of refined paint mixed with precious metals, the sisters portray a vision of a contemporary realm full of allegorical beauty towards ancient beauty, elegance, and regality.”

We work at the intersection of matte tempera, precious metal leaf, and light, where pigment, reflection, and symbolism converge to shape our visual language.
We are Cristina and Magda Stăicuț, two sisters whose artistic practice explores contemporary abstract painting through a lyrical and symbolic approach. We embrace tempera as our chosen medium for its extraordinary richness of pigment, its velvety matte surfaces, and the quiet depth it brings to every composition. We seek beauty in symbols, hidden meanings, and lyrical narratives that gradually unfold before the viewer.
At the heart of our practice lies precious metal leaf – pure gold and silver – as an active presence within each composition. Its luminous qualities transform abstract ideas into works that evolve with every shift of light. We pursue, almost obsessively, precision in every application, balancing restraint with radiance and allowing each surface to reveal its own quiet complexity.
Painting is, for us, both a discipline and a ritual. Equally important is the way our work is experienced beyond the studio. We curate and develop exhibitions as extensions of our artistic practice, creating spaces where artworks, light, and viewers enter into dialogue.
For us, art is never only the finished work – it is the entire journey of creation. It is this journey that continues to shape everything we create.
We don’t see things as THEY are, we see them as WE are.
